Schools Community Blitz

On Tuesday 5th November, City of Armagh RFC hosted a Community Rugby Fun Day, welcoming 300 young people to the Palace Grounds. Many of these children were visiting the rugby club for the very first time.

From September to November, five primary schools took part in a sport and wellbeing outreach project, courtesy of the NI Policing Board and specifically, the Police Property Fund opportunity in 2024. This programme included hundreds of boys and girls aged 8-11, taking part in structured rugby coaching sessions, alongside workshop delivery from local PSNI Officers and EA Youth Service workers. The workshop activity has included educating our young people on important topics including internet safety, mental health and general wellbeing.

As part of this large scale event, we took the opportunity to invite a number of affiliated primary schools to come together, resulting in many boys and girls take part in rugby games for the first time. We were joined by project partners from the EA and PSNI on the day.

It was a fantastic morning with 15 teams from 12 primary schools taking part and it was lovely to see many young people enjoying our wonderful game of rugby.

Special thanks to our club members who supported this event on the day and special thanks to the NI Policing Board on helping our club create new community ties and helping support our young people in keeping safe in the future.
