Championship B Ulster League
City of Armagh 74 Lurgan 10
The newly formed City of Armagh Senior Women 1st XV got off to a strong start in their league campaign on Sunday at the Palace Grounds.
Following on from a win in Round One away in Bangor against North Down, it was with much excitement and anticipation when the team ran out at the Palace Grounds for their first home fixture.
A mix of both experienced and very new players make up the Orchard County team and with E.L McCall out through injury and K. Pickering just over the road at the Athletic Grounds playing in her Senior Ladies Intermediate Cup Final, there were gaps to be filled and the team certainly stepped up to the plate.
A good running game of rugby was played on a beautiful sunny day which drew out the spectators to support the teams.
Tries flowed with half a dozen scored in each half for the Armagh women and 14 points added in conversions from the boot of number 10 Emily Dickson.
Try scorers were B McBurney (3), T Graham (2), G Gillanders (2), C Glover, A Thompson, R Kirkland, C Mackle and H Calvin.
Hollie Calvin was named Maxxpresso Drive Thru Player of the Match.
Many thanks to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and a special thanks to both Concept Advertising and Trimprint for the design and printing of the match programmes. Thanks also to Ken Redpath for capturing the action.
The next fixture is away for Round 3 of the league against Rainey in Sunday 12th October, kick off 2pm.
