Suzanne Fleming Cup Round 1
In challenging weather conditions at the Palace Grounds, City of Armagh Women battled to a hard-earned 10-0 victory over local rivals Portadown on Sunday. Driving rain and wind at times made for difficult handling throughout, but Armagh showed determination and composure to secure the win.
The hosts opened the scoring around midway through the first half when Kaitlyn Graham powered over the line on the wing. The difficult conversion attempt hampered by the weather conditions, didn’t make it, leaving the score 5-0 at half time.
The City of Armagh women worked tirelessly and again were rewarded 20 minutes through the second half when Kaitlyn Graham found space and crashed over for her second unconverted try, taking the score to 10-0. Portadown responded strongly in the final quarter, mounting several promising attacks, but City of Armagh’s defensive organisation held firm and that commitment from every player in the team ensured they finished out the match strongly.
The Maxxpresso Drive Thru Player of the Match honours went to Lesley Megarity, whose tireless defensive work was crucial in securing the win.
Our next match is Round 5 of the league against Ophir on Sunday 9th November at the Palace Grounds. Kick off 2pm.
